Program:

Session 1: 09:15 – 10:35

-What is Regenerative Agriculture?

-Human scale farming

-Soil, Carbon and Water

-Complex Vs Complicated systems

-Exponential growth and decay

-Ecosystem processes

Here we will look at the basic tenets of Regenerative Agriculture, which runs counter to the trajectory of industrial ag, and aims to put the nobility back into rural stewardship. We will break down each of these tenets to explore key insights into soil, carbon and water which must dictate how we farm if we wish to sustain production in the long term in an economically, ecologically and socially sound way. We will explore key ecosystem processes that we must harness to our advantage to avoid constantly fighting symptoms, as we do in so many areas of our lives.

20 min break: 10:35 – 10:55

Free fika from Plantkafeet, kombucha from Roots of Malmö and …

Session 2: 10:55 – 12:15

-The Scale of Permanence

-Topography and farm design

-Keyline and agroforestry

The Scale of Permanence is the ordering framework with which Richard approaches farm design; an elegant and holistic way of prioritizing the importance of different elements in the landscape from the earliest developed ecological design framework. We will understand the direct relationship between topography and water, the limiting factor for all production, and how to design energy efficient farms (and even urban areas) that harness gravity. By understanding ecosystem processes and topography we design landscapes that look very different from the typical farms we are used to seeing, and explore the layered benefits.

Lunch break 12:15 – 13:15

Unfortunately, no lunch included!

Session 3: 13:15 – 15:00

-Direct sales through relationship marketing

-Modular, scalable and replicable enterprises

Relationship marketing is not only the basis of food-security for local communities in human-scale agricultures, but allows the farmer to have control of their business and see fair returns for their hard work. We shall explore the modalities and innovations for entrepreneurial farmers in this regard, explore various enterprises and dive into numbers and economy to see how they stack up.

Masterclass | Challenge accepted: Imagining a nature-based future

Masterclass | Challenge accepted: Imagining a nature-based future for Bangladesh

17h00 @ GREEN INNOVATION PARK, Alnarp where we will join the livestream!

How does one go about imagining the Future? We know that a climate resilient and nature positive future is possible with Nature-based Solutions, but to go from ideas to the drawing board is another story. We want to help you explore possibilities for nature-based futures that are compatible with a complex and challenging reality. By taking the case of the Bengal Delta in Bangladesh, we walk you through the do’s and don’ts of the whole process.

Programme:

Tim van Hattum (WUR), leader of the projects Netherlands in 2120, and EU in 2120 will talk about the untapped potential of Nature-based Solutions in addressing climate change and biodiversity loss. He will share his experience in using long term perspective to stimulate discussion on landscape planning and policy choices.

Maheen Khan (WWF NL), Bangladeshi entrepreneur now working with civil society to amplify the voices of climate change, will emphasises the importance of grasping the local social, economic and political issues when it comes to designing nature-based solutions. She will go over the local context and help you understand how local people view nature, so that the future will also fit and benefit them.

With this Masterclass, you will get a good picture of the challenges experienced in the Bengal delta, and start building your toolbox to imagine a path for the future.

Organized in collaboration with Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research and Wageningen Biodiversity Initative.

Always welcome to just join in, but register for a free dinner!

Nepri

Nepri

Nepri is a Skåne-based startup with the mission to help farmers find and treat plant diseases before they cause harm to crops. Founded by Erik Karlsson, a recent graduate from LTH at Lund University. During his MSc thesis he used the chip technology for fieldwork in rural Kenya, where he saw how farmers could do little to save their crops from plant diseases. Nepri uses new microfluidic chip technology, by which they can find the cause behind a majority of all plant diseases: harmful microbes living in the soil. By digging down chips in the soil, they can measure the amount of harmful microbes in that specific area, and guide farmers to more precise and timely management of diseases, before they infect the crop.
